The Nigerians beat the Moroccans 3-1 in the first leg of the second round CAF Champions' League match played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State capital.

Joshua Obaje scored the first goal of the game for Heartland in 18th minute before the visiting Moroccans equalized through a header, by Mustapha Allaoui, off a corner kick 30 minutes into the game.

The Heartland boys will make good their home tuff advantage just before the 45 minute half-time through a shot by Stanley Okoro to take the lead again. Obaje made the score 3-1 for Heartland in the 53rd minute.

Though the Heartlanders continued to press their Moroccan visitors with a spectacular play by Obaje, a heat-trick, in the 85th minute. But El-Jarmouni Tarik, the able goalkeeper for the Royal Armed Forces, saved it for the Moroccan visitors. Tarik would do it again two minutes to the final whistle when he block another play from former youth international John Owoeri.

Kelechi Emeteole, the Heartland coach, is happy his team will be going to Morocco in April with a two-goal advantage. But he remains mindful that his boys had conceded a goal at home to the Moroccans and hopes the Heartlanders will be able to hold their lead through the second leg of this match with the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco.
