Position Summary

Major duties include directing all operations within the office of Recording Services to include: coordinating all college-related recording activities; maintaining performance hall, recording studio, and classroom recording and sound reinforcement equipment; managing the Recording Services budget; hiring, training, and supervising office staff and student employees; and providing recording, editing/mastering, technical, and audio maintenance support to the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music.

Other duties include; providing sound reinforcement and recording for special events; assisting students, faculty and guest artists with technical needs involving computers and technology for contemporary music recitals and concerts; and teaching recording or audio technology courses as needed.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Direct all operations within the office of Recording Services to include: coordinating all college-related recordings; maintaining performance hall, recording studio, and classroom recording and sound reinforcement equipment; managing the Recording Services budget; hiring, training, and supervising office staff and student employees.
  • Provide recording, editing/mastering, technical, and audio maintenance support to the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music.
  • Provide sound reinforcement and recording for special events.
  • Assist students, faculty and guest artists with technical needs involving computers and technology for contemporary music recitals and concerts.
  • Teach recording or audio technology courses as needed for 2 credit hours per semester.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • High level skills as recording engineer and technician
  • Professional-level knowledge of audio principles and analog/digital audio techniques
  • Professional-level knowledge of microphones and mic placement techniques for live sound and recording sessions
  • Professional-level knowledge of analog and digital mixing consoles
  • Fluent ability with ProTools and other DAWs
  • Multi-track recording expertise for varied size ensembles (for example recording the orchestra for their commercial releases)
  • Fluent knowledge of equipment setups for live sound reinforcement and ability to set up equipment and run live sound for various sized ensembles in different sized halls
  • Fluent knowledge of recording studio configurations and technical ability to maintain high-end recording facility
  • Score-reading ability (small and large ensemble) for recording and editing purposes
  • Post-production ability in audio (required) and video (preferred)
  • Knowledge of live-streaming audio/video systems (preferred)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair audio equipment including: audio hardware/outboard gear, computer systems, mixers, cables, and classroom audio cabinet equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair built-in audio systems in performance halls
  • Ability to manage staff and student workers; able to delegate effectively
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Financial management skills

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Music (any specialization) or degree related to Recording Technology and/or Music Industry required; Master’s degree preferred. Also required, three years of recording experience – live classical music ensembles and music technology related work.

Salary

Full-time administrative staff position available. Administrative Staff pay grade 355. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
