Ice on Immigration:
Will
Mississippi copycat Arizona’s anti-immigrant law?

Question: Did the anti-immigrant Arizona copycat bill, proposed in
Mississippi, SB 2179, die in the Mississippi state legislature, or will
it become law this year?
Answer: SB 2179
was officially listed as dead on March 29, 2011. With the help of many
individuals and organizations, including the Mississippi Immigrants
Rights Alliance, the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus, and other
progressive Mississippi legislators, the bill was killed, and hopefully
will never be resurrected. The regular Mississippi legislative session
will end in a few days and will reconvene in January 2012 with a new
governor.
