The School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for an HR Director to join their team.

The University of Washington's School of Medicine (SoM) HR Director is a strategic and visionary thinker that leads HR function across the SoM for a diverse community of 6,000 staff. The SoM includes the Dean's Office, 32 academic departments, and the UW Medicine Central Business Units. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, cultivate robust relationships, and leverage technology and analytics to develop data-driven insights that improve HR practice. The Director promotes strong and consistent HR practice across the SoM by participating in the selection and onboarding process for senior HR positions in the academic departments, communicating HR updates to all 60+ staff HR positions, and acting as a resource to all HR leaders within the SoM. The Director has delegated authority from the Dean to review, question, modify, and approve all staff involuntary terminations and layoffs; conduct all Loudermill hearings, and represent the SoM in labor contract negotiations. The Director has approval authority for compensation issues for high level SoM staff.

The Director directly oversees two teams of HR professionals: The Dean’s Office HR team and the Administrative Business Center HR/Payroll Shared Services team. The Dean’s Office HR team supports all HR functions for 900 staff in the SoM Dean’s Office and partners with the HR Director on SoM-wide communications and practices. The ABC HR/Payroll Shared Services team performs HR/payroll processing for 11 of the 32 SoM academic departments, representing 3,000 faculty and staff. The Director also oversees the SoM’s centralized recruiting and data reporting functions.

The Director partners with UW Medicine leadership on creating strategic policies and in identifying and responding to practice issues. The Director promotes the alignment and equity of HR policies across SoM academic departments and seeks to unify HR practice across UW Medicine where feasible. The position also serves as a resource bridge between the UW Medicine health system and the SoM Dean’s Office and academic departments.

This position is the SoM’s primary interface with leadership in UW Human Resources and the Integrated Service Center (ISC), the group that supports UW’s usage of Workday’s Human Capital Management module. The position advocates for the SoM’s interests with these and other campus groups as needed.
