Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry

Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Norwich University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry, with the desired start of July 1, 2024.

Teaching effectiveness is the most important criterion for faculty evaluation, promotion, and tenure. The successful candidate will usually teach 9 or 12 contact hours per semester (21 contact hours/year). A list of likely courses to teach includes Physical Chemistry I, Physical Chemistry II, General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Communication in Chemistry and Senior Seminar and Synthesis. They are expected to deliver a high-quality undergraduate education in chemistry, have an active research program, advise undergraduate students, and serve on department, college, and university committees.

Professional development is an important criterion for faculty evaluation, promotion, and tenure. Faculty are expected to develop a research program appropriate for involving undergraduates that has the potential for publication or external presentation. Internal resources for professional development are available.

Service is another important criterion for faculty evaluation, promotion, and tenure. Faculty members must participate willingly, effectively, and collegially in the operations of the department, college, and university. Advising undergraduate students is a required service.


Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in physical chemistry or related field.
Prior teaching experience at the college level is preferred, as is knowledge and practice using active learning strategies in the classroom.
