Job Description
The Opportunity:

The College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Mechanical Engineering Department starting in Fall 2024 at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the field of robotics. The department is interested in candidates who can co-lead the existing undergraduate robotics-focused degree track that is available to undergraduate mechanical, electrical, computer, and software engineering students. Faculty candidates should be able to teach robotics focused senior capstone design classes and serve as the faculty director of robotics lab facilities. As part of their appointment, the selected candidate will mentor student robotics groups and projects, conduct scholarship of learning and discovery, and perform and present research in their field of expertise. Applicants should be able to demonstrate ability to teach and develop classroom and laboratory courses across all levels of undergraduate education in general engineering sciences as well as discipline specific areas within the robotics field. Successful faculty candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education both in the classroom and through experiential learning opportunities, including faculty mentored undergraduate research.

The Mechanical Engineering Department at ERAU Prescott is ABET accredited and nationally recognized for its undergraduate programs. The department has 12 full time faculty in the areas of Robotics, Propulsion, and Energy with over 250 undergraduate students. The department has a strong focus on hands-on educational methods and emphasizes practical skills students will need after graduation. Faculty in the department work with our students on projects related to their areas of expertise partnering with government, industry, and other higher educational institutions. Department faculty and students have access to facilities and equipment related to work in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering ranging from high performance computing to manufacturing and fabrication. Qualifications
Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related field and relevant experience is desired, but candidates with significant industry experience and a master’s degree are strongly encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to teach courses in robot kinematics and dynamics along with robotic sensing and control.

Demonstrated competence in mentoring or leading a design team on a multidisciplinary robotics project preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to present and publish research and scholarly activity.

Knowledge of Robot Operating System (ROS) and/or practical experience with industrial manipulators is favorable for this position.
