Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $61,700-$108,100/yr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: Student Resource Building - 2210

Working Days and Hours: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, and occasional weekends

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Utilizes advanced skills gained at the Master's degree level in counseling fields (student affairs and/or higher education); exhibits culturally inclusive active listening skills (e.g., appropriately establishing interpersonal contact, perception checking) and provides counseling services for personal, social and academic issues, including but not limited to cultural identity, educational, relationship, family, sexuality and sexual identity issues. Focuses on working with Chican@/Latin@ EOP student population.

Designs, implements and evaluates cultural, academic and programmatic services for the Chican@/Latin@ Cultural Resource Center (CLCRC) and El Centro Arnulfo Casillas/Building 406. Develops program designs and tools to assess quality of programs and events offered. Assists in campus efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented students. Plays a key role in the Division of Student Affairs Initiative to build bridges for EOP students and the CLCRC/El Centro/Building 406.

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree in counseling or related area or years of equivalent experience/training.
• Experience in providing in-depth, wide-ranging and complex academic advising and holistic services to undergraduates.
• Experience with social media management on multiple platforms, updating department website, and Emma application.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

50% Counseling

Utilizes advanced skills gained at the Master's degree level in counseling or related fields; exhibits culturally inclusive active listening skills (e.g., appropriately establishing interpersonal contact, perception checking) and provides counseling services for personal, social and academic issues, including but not limited to cultural identity, relationship, family, sexuality and sexual identity issues. Focuses on working with Chican@/Latin@ EOP student population.

Assists with determining eligibility and processes student applications for the AS/EOP emergency grant.

Identifies individual needs by attending to factual, verbal and non-verbal data in the exploration of relevant experiences, behaviors, feelings and cultural influences. Guides students in developing problem resolution skills. Facilitates, develops, adapts and applies cross-cultural and identity models to aid students in developing personal identity; transitional adjustment; peers, faculty and staff interaction, and issue resolution.

Assesses distressed students, identifying risk and intervention needs. Interacts with appropriate campus or community agencies to receive and refer students. Provides support throughout the therapeutic/intervention process. Serves on the crisis counseling team providing mutual aid to the Counseling Center and/or the campus Emergency Operations Center, Call line, etc.

Maintains adherence to confidentiality and FERPA guidelines.

Develops relationships with appropriate offices to increase retention and advancement of a diverse and multicultural student population. Promotes the continued growth of the department's cultural programming and services in creating campus opportunities for a diverse student community.

Maintain updated and provide students with essential information to assess academic progress & develop plan of action for fulfilling major/University requirements, preparing for graduate/professional program, and establishing career options for their academic majors.

Is guided by professional competency areas for student affairs professionals as outlined by American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Association (NASPA). Maintains knowledge of student development theory and applicable models.

Participates in ongoing training. Establishes relationships with campus and community agencies and professional organizations. Maintains knowledge of current issues, student services and resources, and retention & research on first generation, low income and underrepresented student populations and cultural resource centers.

40% Program Management/Supervision

Coordinates the Chicanx/Latinx Cultural Resource Center space and El Centro Arnulfo Casillas/Building 406, including daily operation, maintenance and resources on behalf of EOP. Evaluates, develops, and administers program budget. Responsible for cost benefit analysis, projection and forecast of budget scenarios, services and funding priorities. Identify funding sources and implement fundraising and marketing strategies. Manages program budget and co-sponsorships with other campus departments.

Hires, trains, and supervises student staff for the CLCRC/El Centro. Works in collaboration with other CRC coordinators.

Designs, implements, and evaluates cultural services and programs for students, campus and community. Utilizes political acumen and represents interests of communities' campus-wide. Develops tools to assess student needs and quality of events/programs. Develops programming and plan of action to promote CRC's mission. Works with other CRC coordinator(s) and department leadership to maintain consistent services and resolve division of labor needs. Maintains open communication with EOP and student affairs regarding student community needs.

Acts as a campus-wide first-responder in crisis situations pertaining to the community. Serves as a primary resource for campus climate issues.

Maintains an advisory relationship with student organizations, clubs, or Greek organizations. Attends relevant meetings, such as the MESA Directiva, HSI, etc.

Advocates for inclusion of "minority" identity development models in the campus outreach and retention plans. Creates specific services and programs campus-wide to address Achievement, Leadership, Community, and Identity. Pursues research opportunities, campus resources, scholarships, career development, and graduate school preparation. Confers with faculty, staff, and professionals to research data and develop strategies relevant to the above issues.

Provides workshops & presentations to students, staff, and faculty.

Curates cultural archives and updates promotional publications, web sites, articles, manuals, and educational literature.

Promotes the development of off-campus community resources for CRC students, including connection to parents, alumni and external constituencies and sister campuses.

Holds a lead campus role in advocating for and navigating needs and services of first generation students. Work directly with students and relevant campus parties to integrate the needs of this population throughout all student and academic services, campus policies, etc. (Consults with academic units, residence halls and Student Affairs.)

Provide assistance in other program areas as needed and as assigned.

10% Marketing & Media

Assists in the following areas: develops a long term online communication matrix for EOP. Department control point for all marketing needs. Utilizes current research and theory on technology to develop a marketing plan that includes print media, newsletters, technology, and social networking. Maintains and oversees social media and podcasting for the department. Maintains and updates the EOP website. Trains and advises staff on use of technology interface and media to meet their program objectives. Produces marketing videos and serves as editor of the department newsletter and weekly email communication. Maintains media station and all media equipment. Responsible for hardware/software, and training of staff. Assesses technology/media needs for the department and recommends purchases. Supervises media interns. Sits on the department Technology Committee to set tech priorities for the department and work on project implementation and oversight.
