Black Hills State University is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to serve as the Assistant Director of the Center for American Indian Studies. The Assistant Director works with the Director in fulfilling the mission for the CAIS. The Assistant Director provides support across the key functions of American Indian Studies and Student Services. On the academic side, the Assistant Director will play a key role in scheduling, program evaluation, grant writing and management. On the student service side, the Assistant Director is actively involved with providing academic and general student advising, connecting students to resources across the University, and working with student organizations on their events and programs led or co-led by the CAIS. This position actively works with colleagues to create a welcoming environment where American Indian histories and cultures are reflected, valued, honored, and students thrive.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in any field is required.
Two or more years of experience counseling/advising AI/AN students in higher education.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Flexible, adaptive, and positive working style.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in American Indian studies, Student Affairs, Education, or related field.
Knowledge of institutional admissions policies and procedures.
Experience counseling/advising AI/AN students in higher education.
Knowledge and experience with college programs, higher education systems, policies and procedures.
Experience with and knowledge about programs supporting AI/AN college success.
Experience writing and managing grants.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Experience collaborating and consulting with tribal communities.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
Effectively work with multiple databases and student platforms.
Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations.
Familiarity with online learning and/or Internet technology.
Act professionally with co-workers and students.

COMMENTS:
This position is 100% grant funded. Continued employment is dependent upon grant funding.
