Position Overview The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching, teach Biology courses at the graduate and under-graduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. The College of Science and Technology enrolls 2200 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research. The Department of Biology is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise related to biological sciences. The Department of Biology offers degree programs in General Biology, and a Pre-medical Track at the B.S. level, General Biology at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Bioscience in the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers a minor program Biology. The Department of Biology has more than seven hundred and eighty-five (785) enrolled undergraduates and approximately twenty (20) enrolled master’s students, and also enroll approximately thirty (30) PhD students under the PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. Biology is housed in Barnes Hall, and currently has eighteen (18) tenured, tenure-track or teaching assistant professor faculty members. The Department of Biology’s mission is to educate students to become competent, competitive, and confident leaders who excel in global scientific community. Among its core values, the department is committed to excellence, responsiveness, accountability, intellectual growth, inclusiveness, and collaborative engagement. Additionally, the department provides instruction in the biological sciences through classroom and laboratory interactions, undergraduate research experiences, seminars, and professional career advisement programs and activities.
