GENERAL PURPOSE:

Heidelberg University, located in Tiffin, Ohio, invites applications for Adjunct Applied Instructor of Cello and Bass for the 2024 Spring Semester. The successful candidate should be a dynamic teacher with a strong background in cello/bass performance, repertoire and pedagogy. The successful candidate will teach the following courses: Applied Cello and Bass Lessons for Majors and Non-majors.

This adjunct position is for the Spring Semester 2024 academic year with the possibility of renewal contingent on a performance evaluation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position collaborates closely with instrumental faculty in the School of Music and Theatre. This position is supervised by the Director of the School of Music and Theatre.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach Applied Cello and Bass Lessons for Majors and Non-majors.
Assess student performance development during applied juries at the end of the academic year.
Assist with recruitment for the School of Music and Theatre.

Requirements

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Professional Experience:

Masters in Music or equivalent degree with an applied area in Cello or Bass FA or Equivalent Professional experience is preferred. Undergraduate degree with an applied area in Cello or Bass is required. Prior applied teaching experience at the University or private studio level is required. Familiarity with diverse musical styles including but not limited to jazz is preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Recruitment is a primary requirement in addition to instructional service to the School of Music and Theatre.
Possess a work ethic that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, and builds consensus in a high-energy and high-task environment with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel and work weekends as needed according to SMT programming and recruitment endeavors.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Various instructional technologies including, but not limited to Google Suite, learning management systems such as Canvas, video conferencing, etc.

The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in a classroom setting, as well as performance venues on and off of the Heidelberg campus. The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.

SELECTION GUIDELINES: The Adjunct Instructor of Cello/Bass will be selected after a formal application procedure, education and experience rating, oral interview, and reference check. Job related tests may be required.
