Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology
The University of Montana Psychology Department requests applications for a tenure track appointment as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Indigenous health and wellness. Candidates must possess a depth of knowledge, a track record of scholarship, and applied clinical experience related to Indigenous health, wellness, and health care systems (e.g., IHS). The faculty member would serve in a leadership role for the Department’s Indians into Psychology (InPsych) program, an initiative funded, in part, through a competitive cooperative agreement between the Psychology Department and the US Indian Health Service (IHS). This position will begin in August 2024.

Qualified applicants will possess advanced knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness, demonstrate a record of relevant scholarship and service, as well as experience working clinically with Montana Tribal community members. Preferred candidates will have first-hand experience with Section 217 scholarships funded by the IHS American Indians into Psychology Program. Experience with the development and implementation of clinical and educational training programs for advanced doctoral students in psychology and experience with Tribal justice systems are strongly preferred. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology, and must be eligible for, and are expected to gain licensure as a psychologist in Montana. Preferred candidates include those with three or more years clinical experience as a psychologist in an IHS mental/behavioral or integrated health care setting.

Responsibilities:

Teaching undergraduate and graduate Psychology courses, including courses in multicultural psychology and Indigenous ways of knowing
Conducting original research
Supervising graduate student research and clinical work
Mentoring Indigenous students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Relationship building with Montana Tribal communities and Tribal Colleges and Universities
Developing and implementing a Summer Program for Indigenous students to nurture interest in mental/behavioral health professions
