Position Summary The Department of Mathematics and Statistical Sciences in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology is accepting applications for a position as Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education. Qualifications Minimum Required Education Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or Doctor of Arts (DA) in the Teaching of Mathematics. A Master’s degree in Mathematics, plus a Ph.D. or Ed.D in any of the educational areas of specialization. A Ph.D. in any of the Mathematics areas with at least three (3) years of experience in Mathematics Education or a graduate degree in any areas of education specializations. Minimum Required Experience A successful candidate must demonstrate an acceptable experience in secondary mathematics curriculum and course development for undergraduate and graduate mathematics education programs or courses.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications None Qualifications The candidate must be familiar with the PRAXIS exams, mathematics education accreditations, the State of Mississippi standards, and the supervision of student teaching. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, undergraduate and graduate students advising, and service at the departmental, college and university levels. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for success in developing funded programs for the improvement or pre-service mathematics teacher training and K-12 student learning of mathematics. Skills and Abilities None Job Duties and Responsibilities Teaching 12 semester hours. Developing new programs and courses. Revising existing courses. Student advising. Systematic mentoring (of mathematics education majors through extra-class tutorials, competitions, rehearsals, etc.). Providing planned programs of funded research to support mathematics education majors. Providing research and service at the departmental college and university levels; and to the community and professional organizations. Other responsibilities include the coordination of the undergraduate mathematics education program as a liaison to the College of Education and Human Development. Developing recitation courses for PRAXIS I and II. Serving as the University Supervisor for student teaching. Leading the mathematics education programs.
