Description of Work
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks candidates for a Visiting Assistant Professor of French and/or Francophone Studies beginning August 19, 2024 and continuing through May 23, 2025.

We are seeking someone who can teach existing courses in our curriculum at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels and who can develop and offer courses in their area of expertise. The area of specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates with teaching and research interests in sub-Saharan Africa, Media studies, or the digital humanities. The expected teaching load will be five (5) courses.

Specific Duties include teaching established courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate level, conducting research in area of specialization, pursuing collaborative research with faculty in other related fields, engaging in unit service, and supporting co-curricular activities in the French program.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Ph.D. (by August, 2024) in French and/or Francophone Studies.
Native/near-native language skills in English and French.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research as evidenced by dissertation research, publications, and/or externally funded research grants.
A record of achievement in teaching; if requested after preliminary screening, the candidate should be prepared to demonstrate excellence in teaching as evidenced by teaching evaluations, peer observations of teaching, syllabi, and other evidence of curricular innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching diverse populations of students.
Interest in interdisciplinary engagement, whether through course offerings, engagement with faculty and/or students in other units, or research agenda. Particular areas of interest or potential collaboration include Indigenous studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Film Studies, African Studies, Ethnic Studies, History, Human Rights/Humanitarian Affairs, Medieval/Renaissance Studies, literary translation, and/or English.
