Position Title: Felton J. Capel Distinguished Professorship in Performing and Fine Arts The Department of Performing and Fine Arts at Fayetteville State University produces graduates who will be leaders and advocates in their respective fields in the performing and fine arts (music, dance, theatre, and visual arts). The Department is committed to building community through the arts by being a resource for performing and fine arts pedagogy and performance, cultivating a climate where creativity flourishes, engaging the community with the arts, and making the arts accessible to all. Primary Purpose of the Position: This position is a Distinguished Professorship in the Performing and Fine Arts Department as a non-tenured position in either the Visual Arts, Music, or Theatre/Dance. The ideal candidate should have distinguished himself/herself as an outstanding performer, artist, and/or faculty member in one of the areas of the performing and fine arts disciplines. For visual arts candidates, the selected individual must be able to work with current digital art software and be familiar with contemporary practices in the digital art field. The distinguished professor would enhance the knowledge base of a specific area for our students, faculty, and the community. The Distinguished Professor is expected to be a passionate practitioner who demonstrates the ability to engage, inspire, and mentor students and integrate innovative pedagogical and technological approaches and multicultural perspectives into instructional methods. The ideal candidate will be able to foster collaborative teaching and encourage educational opportunities through diverse and innovative projects, curricula, and experiences. In support of the program’s strong commitment to diversity, the faculty members are expected to foster a welcoming, equitable, and accessible learning environment for all students. The position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with an appointment of one to three years. The successful candidate would teach no more than 3-6 credit hours, mentor faculty and students, conduct master classes and workshops for the community at large, and possibly, depending upon the length of the appointment, produce and implement an impactful project showcasing their research and work with students.
