General Job Description:

The Senior Academic Advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting students who are undeclared, seeking to change majors, or facing academic challenges. Serving as the primary point of contact for the academic advising team, this position is instrumental in guiding students through crucial decisions regarding their academic journey.

Essential Functions:

- Collaborate with students across schools and majors to provide comprehensive academic advising support.

- Conduct midterm outreach, follow up on Purple Post communications, and offer guidance during registration periods.

- Facilitate start-of-semester schedule adjustments for students.

- Organize and lead workshops, engage in student outreach initiatives, and establish effective communication with academic departments.

- Coordinate efforts with the Manager of Retention for seamless execution of academic advising strategies.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

- Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.

- Clear and effective communication skills.

- Proactive follow-up on outstanding tasks and student communication.

- Strong coordination skills to organize tasks within the advising team.

Working Relationships:

- Collaborate with the Academic Services Team to coordinate office efforts.

- Work closely with students to advise and plan schedules, addressing academic difficulties.

- Engage with faculty on student issues, advising outreach, and SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) preparation.

Physical and Mental Effort:

- Occasionally lift and carry office supplies/equipment for campus functions.

- Ability to read, interpret, and relate policies.

Work Hours/Travel Requirements:

- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

- Two Saturdays per year for Commencement and Move-In events.

- Occasional optional travel for conferences.
