Job Summary/Basic Functions

Virginia State University seeks four (2) conscientious individuals to serve as dispatchers in the Virginia State University Police Department .

To investigate and follow-up on reports of criminal activity or other incidents of suspicious nature, and to serve the Virginia State University (VSU) community. To protect life and property and enforce laws of the Commonwealth as well as regulations of the University within appropriate jurisdictional confines. To serve the community by providing professional and efficient police services.

Receiving and relaying information in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to organize clerical support functions effectively. Accurate data entry into automated systems following correct procedures. Observe strict confidentiality. Contact with the public using skills in diplomacy and interpersonal communication. Deal sensitively with emotional, critical, and confidential matters.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.

- The candidate should be skilled in keyboarding.

- Demonstrate the ability to operate voice communications equipment.

- The candidate must be able to interpret and apply policies and procedures.

- Must have the ability to obtain a certification to operate NCIC, VCIN, and DMV equipment and databases.

- Must have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and assignments and work independently.

- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Must be able to respond quickly in emergencies.

- Possess a high school diploma or equivalency.

- Must be willing to accept varied shift assignments.

Additional Considerations:

- Certified through VA State Police to operate NCIC, VCIN, and DMV equipment/databases.
