Position Summary
New Mexico Highlands University Biology Department is seeking candidates for a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Biology who is passionate about student success, teaching, and student research. The position starts August, 2024. Interested candidates with teaching expertise and research in cellular and molecular biology, or botany are invited to apply. Teaching duties will include lower, upper, and graduate level courses in molecular and cellular biology, botany, and areas of the candidate’s specialty.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate for this position is expected to teach a combination of entry-level biology courses, upper, and graduate division courses within the candidate’s specialty (24 hrs/academic year); develop and maintain independent research projects, participate in service to the department and university, mentor students, maintain regular attendance, and hold student hours.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in biological science, or related fields, with capacity to teach in the areas of Botany or Cellular & Molecular Biology and other related courses in these fields.

Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-doctoral experience in research or teaching in the fields of Botany or Cellular & Molecular Biology.
• Experience with diverse student populations or underrepresented minorities.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and one’s own professional development including training/experience in active and cooperative learning teaching strategies.
• Demonstrate a research focus that complements existing research programs at Highlands.
• Success or potential to gain external funding for a focused research program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Successful candidates must have a background in Botany or Cellular & Molecular Biology.
