Assistant Professor of Practice

The First Year Program in the College of Engineering (COE) at Western New England University seeks applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice or a Professional Educator beginning in August 2024. This is a non-tenure-track teaching position continuing with three-year contract renewals. Candidates for this position must have a graduate degree (PhD is required for the Assistant Professor of Practice position, M.S. is required for the Professional Educator position) in a related engineering discipline and have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in engineering education and interest in teaching undergraduate engineering courses and laboratories. Candidates with degrees in all engineering disciplines will be considered; fields of particular interest include Biomedical, Civil/Environmental, Electrical/Computer, Industrial, and Mechanical engineering.

While the candidates are expected to be experts in their specified discipline, they will be primarily responsible for teaching courses in the COE First Year Program, as well as core engineering courses offered in the second year of study. All faculty are also required to participate in department, university, and professional service activities. Postdoctoral or industrial experience is desirable; ability to work with diverse student populations and excellent communication skills are necessary. Knowledge and experience with platforms used in the First Year Program, such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, Arduino and LabVIEW, as well as programming languages such as C++/Python, is preferred.

The College of Engineering has developed a unique First Year Program that allows students to think and act like an engineer from their first day on campus. The program has numerous facets, including (1) an innovative curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning, (2) multiple design projects that provide opportunities for skill and mindset development, and (3) robust mentoring from faculty. The College offers degrees, including B.S., M.S. and Ph.D., in a host of engineering disciplines.
