Job Summary The Davis College of Business and Technology at Jacksonville University invites applications for the faculty position of Assistant Professor of Computing Science (Clinical or Tenure Track) beginning Fall 2024. The individual hired for this position must be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computing science and cybersecurity. Teaching responsibilities may include courses such as foundations of computing science, programming, data driven web application development, data driven mobile application development, computing science capstone, applied data mining, artificial intelligence, python programming, cyber threat intelligence, and/or security risk analysis and management. The teaching load is typically 12 credit hours per Fall and Spring semester and may include face-toface, hybrid and/or online deliveries in undergraduate and Master’s programs.
Rank is open based on candidate credentials, experience and interest. For tenure-track position, engagement in research is required. Research interests in software development, artificial intelligence and/or cybersecurity is desired. The individual hired for the position (regardless of rank) will also be responsible for student advising and mentorship, contributing to assessment of student learning outcomes, and engaging in other service activities.
It is expected that the individual chosen for this position will possess a commitment to teaching excellence, willingness to engage in the activities of the Center for Cybersecurity, and a commitment to involvement in service that advances the university or the profession. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent communication and collaboration skills and a commitment to building a diverse and inclusive work and classroom environment.
Duties/Responsibilities Teach classes—a typical l0ad is 24 hours annually Engage in research/scholarship Supervise student research projects Supervise student internships Participate in university service at the department, school, college, or university level Participate in community service (optional) Required Skills/Abilities The ability to teach a broad range of lower-level and upper-level courses The ability to incorporate technology into classroom teaching and to teach online and hybrid classes The ability to supervise and conduct research and supervise student research in area of expertise The ability to work with diverse students and small class sizes Participation in departmental, school, college, or university service Excellent oral and written skills Time management and organizational skills The ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience Tenure-track Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science from an accredited program or a related degree. A.B.D.'s with a clear plan for completion by December 2024 are encouraged to apply.
Non-Tenure track/clinical candidates should possess a Master’s degree in Computer Science from an accredited program or a related degree. Industry experience and external certification(s) are preferred.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach. Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines. Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
