The Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University invites applications for a full-time, nine (9)-month, non-tenure-earning Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor faculty position. As a faculty member in Disaster Management, you will play a key role in shaping the curriculum and guiding students in their journey to become experts in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. You will join a passionate and diverse team of educators committed to providing the knowledge and skills necessary to address the growing challenges of disaster management. Responsibilities include:

Teaching two courses in disaster management discipline each semester (BA/MA)
Engaging with community partners and alumni
Serving on College and University committees
Engaging in scholarly activities and professional service as assigned by the Director of the Online disaster management program.
Assisting the Director of the Online disaster program and senior Coordinator with student advising, practicum assessments, curriculum development, student recruitment, and retention efforts.
Assisting students with securing internship placements

Required qualifications:

A master’s degree in public health, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Disaster Management, Political Science, or another relevant discipline will be considered.
Teaching experience.
Disaster Management experience.

Preferred qualifications:

A doctorate in Public Health, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Disaster Management, Political Science, or a closely related discipline preferred. Teaching experience and DM experience needed.
Experience in teaching and/or mentoring students in an online environment using learning management systems (FIU Canvas).
Experience in teaching the integration of multiple disciplines to address disaster management/emergency management and experience in curriculum development and teaching pedagogy.
