Hiring Department
The University of Texas Permian Basin Department of Human Performance welcomes applications for a tenure track faculty member to serve as the Academic Department Chair for the Department at the Associate or Full Professor rank. UTPB offers a competitive salary and relocation expenses. The anticipated start date is August of 2024. Review will occur on a rolling basis.

Essential Functions
The successful candidate must advocate for students, faculty, department goals, and programs.
Applicants must have demonstrated leadership skills (contributes through direct teaching, research/scholarship, and service). Serves as a role model in these areas, relevant administrative experience, and a commitment to the education and mentorship of students and faculty.

The candidate will have a terminal degree in a discipline appropriate for the department which will have expanded responsibility over Biology. Terminal degrees in Biology, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Health Professionals: MD, DPT, PA, DVM, etc. are invited to lead this new initiative. The Academic Department Chair will join a newly reorganized department with research activities spanning diverse areas of the Biological / Biomedical Sciences, and Human Performance (Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Biomechanics and Kinesiology).

The department chair is responsible for consulting with and representing the interest of department faculty on policies, plans, and procedures that affect the department. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, teach courses in the spring and fall semesters, and provide service to the department, college, and university. The department chair is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the department, including:

• Pursuing and achieving departmental excellence in teaching, research, and service;
• Strategic planning and goal setting aligned with the college/school and university levels;
• Management and professional development of faculty members and staff;
• Preparation and management of department budget;
• Recruitment, retention, evaluation, and promotion of faculty;
• Development of curriculum;
• Communication with faculty and administration;
• Enforcement of applicable regulatory policies;
• Maintaining an environment of collegiality and shared governance;
• Addressing questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty, staff, and students;
• Performing other duties as assigned by the dean

Required Qualifications
• Terminal degree in a discipline appropriate for the department (e.g., athletic training, biology, biomechanics, kinesiology, physiology, exercise science, medical doctor, doctor of physical therapy, physician assistant, doctor of veterinary medicine, etc.)

• Current academic rank of tenured associate or full professor (or equivalent non-US rank)

• Demonstrated leadership skills

• Excellent management skills

• Distinguished record of teaching, service, and research
