Job Description Summary
The Associate Director manages the compliance team within the Office of Financial Aid, serves as the subject matter expert on policies and regulatory guidance pertinent to the administration of Title IV, California state, and institutional student financial aid. The Associate Director also serves as a primary point of contact for university audits and program reviews. The incumbent will maintain their professional knowledge of student financial aid policies and procedures, as well as the utmost integrity in confidentiality, judgment, and discretion. As with all staff, the incumbent will maintain cultural competence by engaging in all required learning and development trainings.
Minimum Qualifications
5 Prior experience in a financial aid office, managing Title IV programs.
2 Experience training/instructing others, including peer training.
2 Experience performing quality assurance utilizing reports and system controls.
Knowledge of USDE systems including COD, CPS/FPS, NSLDS, SAIG Enrollment, etc.
Knowledge of Title IV regulatory requirements and guidance specified in the Federal Student Aid Handbook.
Maintaining strict confidentiality of student financial aid records pursuant to FERPA and Privacy Act regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Ellucian Banner software.
Knowledge of financial aid leveraging methods and business processes.
Knowledge of University of La Verne policy and procedure.
Prior supervisory and staff development experience.

Duties
Specific Duties
Develops and supports the policies, procedures, and controls necessary to ensure compliant and student-serving delivery of financial aid, with particular focus on the unique application of regulations to the University of La Verne business processes and modalities.

Specific Duties
Performs regular internal audits of student eligibility and processing of files, including but not limited to reviewing student aid offers, federal verification, return to Title IV calculations, enrollment level changes, over-awarded records, cleared SAR C-flags, and other file review processes as identified. Ensure annual update and program launch is compliant with federal and state program requirements, as well as institutional aid targets, in conjunction with the Associate Director of Systems.

Represent the Office of Financial Aid on internal and external audits, including liaise with A-133 auditors, CSAC auditors, and federal program reviewers, collaborate with university stakeholders, and attend internal and Board of Trustees audit meetings.

Oversee the timely and accurate packaging of student aid offers, completion of file verifications, and calculation of return to Title IV funds. Reviews satisfactory academic progress outcomes and oversees appeals committee to ensure adherence to policy.

Supervise the compliance team of program managers in their oversight of respective funding programs. Mentor staff towards long term professional development goals. Develop training for financial aid administrators to maintain currency with regulatory guidance.

Develop corrective action plans to any audit findings or areas of concern identified, sharing those findings and plans to remediate with the Director of Financial Aid. Provide collaborative feedback and best-judgment rendering to the Director of Financial Aid. Alert the Director of Financial Aid to any compliance concerns, whether internal to the department or with university stakeholders, with the intent of resolving. Escalate concerns to the Vice President of Enrollment Management if unresolved
