Position Summary:

The IRB Compliance Administrator coordinates the administration of research oversight activities related to human research protections. The IRB Compliance Administrator supports the research community through timely and accurate processing of research protocol submissions and addressing daily needs of investigators. The IRB Compliance Administrator ensures compliance with applicable government and institutional regulations while supporting an active compliance committee review workflow.

Workplace Requirements

This position offers a flexible work schedule, with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Proposed Annual Hiring Salary: $63,100 to $73,000

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree
2 years of related experience (e.g., working experience with human research projects, research project management, sponsored programs administration)
In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted

Ability to effectively manage multiple time-sensitive priorities
Strategic planning and organizational skills required to support efficient administrative workflow.
Superior customer service orientation with demonstrated initiative, judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Initiative to identify and implement business process improvements.
Preferences:

Three years of experience with research administration or research project management
Certified Professional in Institutional Compliance (CPIA)
Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
Essential Functions:

Assists the research community with the protocol submission process, working to improve user experiences
Manages protocol review activities, including notifications and verification of compliance with Rice’s policies and procedures
Performs moderately complex protocol evaluations, consulting with the team as needed
Plans and coordinates compliance review and follow-up activities
Processes comments, reviews, and evaluates responses
Manages protocol files for internal and external audits in accordance with regulatory requirements and university policies and procedures
Attends committee meetings and records meeting outcomes
Assists in the preparation of institutional reports, program reviews, and federal reports for the compliance program
Follows up on post approval issues; prepares correspondence; takes notes on discussions or actions during compliance meetings
Applies knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, as well as university policies and practices, to ensure satisfactory compliance
Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions

Supports research compliance administration functions, including auditing support, records management, communications, and special project leadership.
Supports departmental initiatives in a team-based environment.
