Job Description Summary

Provide financial assistance in the development and monitoring of college budgets to ensure strategic use of funds and fiscal accountability for the College of Engineering Dean's Office (CoE) and departments under the College.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Provide financial assistance to the College of Engineering Dean's Office (CoE) and departments under the College on budget and cost information to inform effective decision making
Manage financial performance operating fund to ensure fiscal accountability
Manage the operation of research funding to maintain accountability
Manage financial aspects of Summer Teaching and Research to accurately track all summer compensation for faculty and to monitor total faculty summer compensation
Identify, interpret account statements, and evaluate fiscally responsible options to ensure sound financial practices and balanced accounts
Process startup agreements to monitor transfers and expenditures for the life of the startup agreement
Manage general fund, discretionary, research, Michigan Tech Fund accounts; interpret account statements, monitor balances, track expenditures, project payroll expenses, and resolve issues
Serve as Grad Assistant
Develop, evaluate, and implement accounting processes to enhance department performance
Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work
Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives
Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Bachelor's degree in business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Five years progressively responsible experience in a financial environment with preference to an educational/academic department
Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and standard accounting practices
Experience managing budget and financial data
Advanced knowledge of computer software (spreadsheets and databases)
Ability to quickly adapt to changing financial boundaries and scenarios and increased workload
Desirable Education and/or Experience

Experience working in higher education
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Attention to detail in work with a high degree of accuracy
Proficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices to ensure accuracy and consistency
Ability to solve problems in regards to budgeting for research, general fund, record keeping for auditing purposes, and use charges
Know and use advanced features of software; create databases/spreadsheets/google sheets files to organize and maintain data, and utilize word processing software/google documents to develop
correspondence and other written materials
Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Experience using Banner and WebFocus.
Exercise independent judgment and autonomy in the development, implementation and utilization of the department's systems for measuring and reporting
Proficient use of techniques, tools, and software as it relates to establishing budgets, projections, supervision of department general funds, research, use charges and lab fee accounts
Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints
