Job Description

Participates in the development, implementation, and coordination of the Yuma campus Student Success Center (SSC) to contribute to improved student academic identity, course completion, retention, and graduation. Specifically, this position is responsible for developing and coordinating SSC functions related to (1) identifying and addressing student retention and performance problems, (2) providing academic and other student support services, (3) supervising, training, and effectively deploying tutors and mentors, and (4) supervising the testing center to support academic placement, student remediation, program progression, academic language development, and other student needs.

This position is located in Yuma, Arizona.

Student Success Center - 25%

Participates in the development, implementation, and coordination of the Yuma campus Student Success Center (SSC) to improve student academic identity, program success, retention, and graduation.
Supervisory - 25%

Develops and coordinates SSC functions in support of campus strategic priorities.
Hires, trains, supervises, and effectively deploys tutors and mentors.
Supervises Testing Center operations.
Student Support Services - 25%

Provides academic and wrap-around student support services (e.g., Louie’s Cupboard for food security).
Student Retention - 20%

Identifies and addresses issues related to student retention, performance, and academic language development in collaboration with faculty.
Other - 5%

Participates on NAU-Yuma campus and department committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment.
2-4 years of relevant experience.
A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in education, social sciences, or a related field.
Minimum of two year’s supervisory experience.
Three years’ experience with higher education advising, transfer, and/or student services.
Two years’ experience working with Hispanic and first-generation students.
Bilingual English/Spanish.
Experience offering tutoring and mentoring services to students.
Experience in case management services.
Experience coordinating student events and support services.
Demonstrated evidence or knowledge of successful strategic planning.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $41,421 - $51,776. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits.
