Valley City State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor for Communication Arts

The candidate selected will be expected to teach both online and face-to-face. The primary responsibility of this position will be to teach courses in Corporate Training, Communication and Interviewing, and Social Media Management, with the possibility to teach other courses such as Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Communication Theory, Event Planning, and communication grad courses. Additionally, this person will be responsible for developing and coaching a college forensic team. Duties will include advising, department participation and campus committees.

Workload includes 60% teaching, 20% coaching, 10% scholarship, 10% service.

Main duties may include:

Developing, enhancing and teaching undergraduate face-to-face and online communication courses.
Developing, recruiting, and coaching a competitive college forensic team.
Recruiting and advising diverse student populations.
Engaging in appropriate service to the department, university, and academic community.
Developing professionally. staying current with course content and working to improve student learning and engagement.
Minimum Qualifications

Earned Masters’ degree in the Communication discipline, with attainment of Ph.D. in Communication to earn tenure
Teaching experience at the college level both face-to-face and online
Experience using an online learning management system, such as Blackboard

Preferred Qualifications

Ph. D. in Communication or related field
Experience with a collegiate forensic team
Professional experience in corporate training or social media management
Experience working within a multi-screen social media lab setting
Compensation:
The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and typically ranges from $47,000 to $52,000 annually pending experience and qualifications. This position is a 9-month, full-time position. In some cases, summer duties may be arranged through an additional contract. Overload during semesters may be available for additional payment.

Duties begin and the faculty member is expected to be on campus August 19, 2024.
