Job Summary The School of Leadership, part of the College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, Visiting Instructor in Accounting. The position runs from August, 2024 through May, 2025 and is located on the Gulf Park campus. Candidates with experience and interest in face-to-face and online teaching of basic and advanced accounting are encouraged to apply.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach four courses per semester (or equivalent) to be determined by the Director of the School. Teaching obligations will primarily support the Accounting BSBA degree but may also include support of other programs. Specific instructional needs are in the areas of financial accounting, cost accounting, and government and nonprofit accounting. Teach in-person, hybrid formats, and in active-learning online classrooms. Maintain quality teaching and contribute to the mission of the program. Hold regular office hours Engage in service activities, such as committee work and other official activities, to assist the functioning of the School, College, and University. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree in Accounting or other business-related field with at least 18 graduate-level credit hours in accounting. A minimum of five years of experience in accounting with professional certification (CPA, CMA, etc.). Additionally, for candidates with prior employment in higher education, evidence of excellence in collegiate teaching and institutional/professional service is required. The candidate must meet the requirements of an instructional practitioner in accounting for AACSB accreditation purposes. Participation in activities promoting teaching and service within the institution. Practical English-language oral and written communication skills through documented effectiveness or external engagement activities. Preferred Qualifications Experience in public or corporate accounting. Experience in teaching hybrid/flipped/online classes. Evidence of excellence in scholarly research. Desire to assist the growth and fulfill the missions of the School, College, and University through service.
