Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Access Services, serves as the evening supervisor for the Jerome Library Circulation Desk including but not limited to closing the building, handling patron and building emergencies, implementing Access Services and library policies and procedures and supervising student desk assistants. Works halftime in Inter-Library Loan (ILL), handling lending and document delivery in the ILLiad system.  Includes preparing material to be shipped, duplication of resources, and directing student work.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

Supervises the Jerome Library circulation desk operations during assigned shifts and provides functional supervision of student employees, and maintaining patron, collection, and building security, and performing circulation problem-solving. Oversees and performs the following:

  • Implements the policies and procedures of the University Libraries, Access Services, the University, and OhioLINK.
  • Conducts routine and non-routine circulation transactions.
  • Fulfills lending and document delivery requests.
  • Answers inquiries in person, by phone, chat, and email for circulating collections, OhioLINK, Reserve, and Interlibrary Loan
  • Facilitates access and security for Special Collections.
  • Resolves patron problems and emergencies. Handles building emergencies.
  • Conducts financial transactions including: calculating taxes, making change, collecting fine payments, maintaining accuracy of drawer.
  • Maintains accurate patron database. Creates and maintains electronic files and records.
  • Responds to patron queries including, but not limited to giving information about the library and library materials, problem solving, tracing billing questions, etc.
  • Participates in training student employees.
  • Opens and closes the library.
  • Processes lending and document delivery requests using ILLiad software in compliance with National Interlibrary Loan standards and copyright guidelines.
  • Uses library databases, WorldCat, and internet resources to locate both electronic and physical material to fulfill requests.
  • Utilizes Adobe to scan, adjust, and save documents to fulfill requests.
  • Readies material to be shipped.
  • Assists with ILL borrowing during absences or times of high request volume. Provides functional supervision of ILL students.
  • Works with other Access Services staff to train student workers.
  • Serves as backup to Materials Maintenance Unit Head.
  • Assists with supervision of evening students in OhioLINK and Stacks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to access and maintain document imaging systems, including scanning and filing documents
  • Ability to accurately receive and disburse cash whether currency, credit cards, checks or other payment forms
  • Ability to operate computers and peripheral equipment such as printers
  • Ability to draft office correspondence

Minimum Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Six months related experience required

Required Education

  • High school diploma or GED required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity using library resources to secure print and electronic research material.
  • Proficient in standard office software, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated successful public service experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs


Full time Classified position available. Classified Staff pay grade 26/$16.21 per hour. Full benefits package available.
