Position Summary

The Database Administrator is responsible for all aspects of providing for the relational database needs of the university. He/She will work under the guidance of the database team lead and with other Information Technology Services team members to provide the necessary support for Oracle, SQL Server and other related software.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

• Install, implement, configure, coordinate and maintain relational database systems, structures and relationships, including maintenance/troubleshooting activities often during off hours to ensure near 24X7 availability. Maintain and ensure viability of backup/recovery procedures. Analyze usage patterns and operational efficiency characteristics of databases; work with systems programmers to plan and manage system/platform resource utilization in order to provide effective system and database performance. Create scripts/rules to automate database tasks and effectively monitor the overall health and security of databases.
• Participate on project teams with application architects to ensure hardware/software solutions for new systems are consistent with rdbms guidelines. Work with systems analysts in setting up needed databases and related structures/objects. Provide for refreshing test environments as needed.
• Analyze and tune SQL and determine and suggest what proper course of actions are required in order to provide efficient execution.
• Create appropriate technical documentation and cross train with other database administrators to ensure adequate coverage of all systems.
• Assist colleagues with the use of complex features, as well as troubleshooting data integrity issues, data anomalies and applying corrective enhancements.
• Participate in teams examining new technologies to ensure rdbms concerns are an integral part of future directions.
• Assist in the establishment and maintenance of written standards, policies and practices for the design and implementation of systems and programs to ensure optimal efficiency of new database schemes, efficient accessing of data through all mechanisms, enhancement of legacy database schemes and data modeling.
• Recommend appropriate training for both technical and end-user staff at the University on effectively utilizing the rdbms and its ancillary packages.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Additional Information

This role requires a very technical individual with strong programming or systems knowledge. Troubleshooting the performance issues requires an analytical mind that is creative and disciplined so that they do not negatively impact the confidentiality, availability, or integrity of the data.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems. Also required three to four years database administration experience preferably in Oracle and SQL Server, and five to seven years system administration or application programming experience.

Salary

Full-time administrative staff position available. Administrative Staff pay grade I57. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
