POSITION: Tenure-track position in Special Education in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership in the College of Education and Human Development. The school is interested in educators with expertise in collaboration/teaming; teaching in inclusive preschool/elementary education settings; working with young children with autism spectrum disorders and their families; and medical, physical, and sensory management strategies. The successful candidate will contribute to school and college initiatives through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and collaboration with other faculty to procure external funds that support programmatic innovation. The successful candidate will also be committed to the goal of building a culturally diverse, pluralistic faculty and to teaching students to engage in practices that support diversity in global classroom environments.

Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor in Early Childhood/Elementary
Special Education

Required Qualifications: Doctorate degree in special education or related field; experience working with students with disabilities in early childhood and elementary settings; experience with clinical supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with young children with varying disabilities, including children with autism spectrum disorders, and their families in urban settings; interest and expertise in collaborative practice in inclusive classrooms and Positive Behavior Support; record of external funding or the potential to procure external funds; familiarity with contemporary instructional technology, including online/distance education technology.

Duties: Engage in the development of programmatic innovations; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary methods in special education and in early childhood special education; teach in face-to-face and online formats as assigned; supervise students in early childhood and elementary clinical settings; participate in research and scholarly activities, including the procurement of external funds and grant management; advise graduate students (M.S.) and undergraduate students; chair and serve on comprehensive examination committees; engage in service to the university, college, school, and community. Additional leadership opportunities as appropriate.

DEPARTMENT: The School of Teacher Education and Leadership is a community of scholars dedicated to the preparation of collaborative, critically-minded, and highly skilled educators. The Special Education program area offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to teacher licensure in Special Education: General Curriculum, Adapted Curriculum, Early Childhood, Visual Impairment, and Hearing Impairment. We prepare candidates for collaborative, inclusive settings, and have several dual licensure options, including our interdisciplinary Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education program.
