Position Summary

The Circulation and Outreach Specialist works to promote the Access Services department and the University Libraries (UL) main collection, encourages patrons to use UL services, and educates current and potential users. This person will work with other UL departments and the UL Dean’s office to promote the main collection and library space and serves as the primary coordinator of student orientation events on behalf of the UL. The Specialist will create training materials and opportunities to ensure excellent customer service, create and manage relevant patron education and marketing materials, and supervise student employees at the desk. Works some evening and weekends and is the primary contact for circulation students when the library is open.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

• Researches, creates, implements, and assesses departmental policies and procedures related to customer service. Assists the Director in the creation and development of departmental policies and procedures. Manages Access Services in the absence of the Director.
• Manages all aspects of the Circulation Desk. Schedules all departmental staff to cover the desk during building hours. Plans and conducts implementation and evaluation of services and access to materials. Creates, maintains, and administers training for all employees who work at the circulation desk. Prepares and monitors the annual Access Services student employment budget. Educates patrons face-to-face and through asynchronous methods on the services and materials available at the circulation desk.
• Provides oversight and guidance to 2 FT personnel and approximately 20 student employees including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action as appropriate.
• Serves as the Access Services webmaster. Includes working with the UL webmaster, determining content standards (within the guidelines set by BGSU and UL), structure and organization of the department website, the technical preparation of documents, images, and files to be added to the website, and the uploading, maintenance, and revision of data. Maintains, creates, and promotes Access Services’ LibGuides and social media.
• Oversees the staffing and setup of relevant orientation and outreach tables on behalf of the UL (Student Orientation and Registration, preview day, etc.). Participates in relevant SOAR meetings to plan and implement orientation activities. Promotes the main collection, library spaces and the Access Services Department.
• Maintains currency with professional standards by attending and participating in library, university, and statewide professional development activities and working regular reference desk shifts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience creating training materials in various formats
• Experience working with diverse populations

Minimum Qualifications

Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited program obtained by the date of hire.

Also the following experience is required:
• 1-2 years supervisory experience
• 1 year customer service experience.


Preferred Experience:


• 1-2 year experience with marketing or outreach

Salary

Full-time administrative staff position available. Administrative Staff pay grade 354. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
