The School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. As the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States, the School of Government offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. In addition, faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books, manuals, reports, articles, bulletins, and other print and online content related to state and local government. The School is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology and environmental finance.
The Programs Division coordinates and manages the School of Government’s continuing education programs for state and local government officials. The division works closely with faculty to plan programs and take the lead in coordinating and implementing program logistics, including budgeting, off-site contracts, program websites, materials, catering, meeting space, audio/visual needs, and on-site support. The division also provides registration and hospitality services and is responsible for allocating space and resources, including eight classrooms, nine seminar rooms, common spaces, and parking.

Position Description
The Program Management Team Lead provides oversight, management, and staff supervision for event management and major project support functions for programs and faculty. In addition, this role serves as lead on a variety of projects within the team and across multiple teams.
The team lead develops and maintains processes and identifies and communicates team best practices. Processes include planning, designing, and managing programs and projects, managing communications in multiple formats, tracking registration and financial data, stimulating interest in programs and events, and developing and providing support solutions for a wide range of initiatives.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Program Management:
A good program manager will always provide excellent customer service to faculty and clients, but they will also coordinate and manage project, and event management services for continuing education programs, courses and conferences, this includes contract negotiation with hotels, conference centers, meeting sites and other vendors, coordinating all program logistics for facilities, lodging, course materials and presenters, answer client inquiries, generating team budget reports and coordinate marketing materials with the Strategic Communications division.
Team Lead:
Oversee team’s program management functions, this includes proactively identify strategies and approaches for improving the quality, priorities and efficiency of the support services provided by the team, track and report team members’ project progress to Assistant Dean of Program, provide backup support to team members and resolve issues escalated by them.
Provide consistent direct supervision across team members, this includes hiring and training new team members, completing evaluations and performance plans, providing guidance for project completion and effective communication across team.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years relevant work experience in event planning and management or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
