At Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay), we believe that the most powerful way to close the academic opportunity gap and improve the life outcomes for urban, low-income public school students, is to staff their schools with well-prepared, highly effective, and committed educators. As part of the effort to ensure that every urban, low-income public school student learns from a great educator, the Chief of Strategic Partnerships will be responsible for driving the strategy on how to engage with our partners and our communities. Reporting to the COO, the Chief of Strategic Partnerships will drive the vision, strategy and execution around building strong relationships nationally and locally with key stakeholders in order to better serve our communities and grow our impact in educator preparation.


Develop and maintain progress to a national vision for Relay Graduate School of Education’s local partners candidate recruitment, and candidate pipeline
Drive the strategy, along with the Provost, President, and COO, to grow brick-and-mortar as well as online campuses by best meeting partners’ needs through the offering of strategic packages of Relay’s services
Research Relay’s programs and services and create a simplified portfolio of products to more easily explain our offerings to potential customers and partners
Responsible for meeting ambitious goals in growth of partner demand for key Relay programs
Learn from, partner with, and train campus leaders on best practices around recruiting a diverse, selective group of graduate students
Support the Chief Student Services Officer and heads of Teacher Pathways on setting the annual strategy for residency recruitment and placement
Work with campus leaders to identify and build relationships with aligned school partners that are committed to our values and interested in Relay recruitment efforts to hit targets each year for placed residents
Develop and manage systems to track, assess, and strengthen relationships with partners across the country
Support Deans in developing an effective, differentiated student recruitment strategy to meet their region's unique needs
Lead the Memorandum of Understanding process and considerations for all partners in consultation with national operations, programs, and legal
Represent Relay at important educational events by sharing information about our impact, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our vision
Manage all responsibilities in new sites and seamlessly transition to local staff when hired

First and foremost, the Chief of Strategic Partnerships must share the team’s sense of urgency about the need to improve student achievement through phenomenal teacher training. Additionally, candidates for the position must have the following:

Exceptional critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills
At least fifteen years of experience in some or all of the following fields: partnership management, development, sales, community engagement, recruitment, and/or team leadership
Strong planning and execution skills
Success in building and implementing systems and people management
Experience navigating markets in multiple geographic regions preferred
A bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred)
Ability to work efficiently and intensely within an entrepreneurial environment
A demonstrated passion for urban education and closing the opportunity gap
Frequent travel (up to 30-50%) required
Authorized to work in the U.S.
