The Tacoma campus of the University of Washington was established in 1990 with an interdisciplinary approach to education at its foundation. It has evolved into a thriving downtown campus that serves students with a wide range of ages and backgrounds from the South Puget Sound region. Faculty have access to the resources of a major research university, including an extensive library system, but work and teach within a small campus setting.
