Employer Profile: | Creative Capital is a non-profit organization that supports innovative and adventurous artists across the country through project funding, mentorship and advisory services, and workshops and webinars. Our pioneering venture philanthropy model inspires a deep connection and commitment to artists and helps those working in all creative disciplines realize their visions and build sustainable practices. Project Funding, Mentorship & Advisory Services Through an open application process, Creative Capital identifies and selects artists from all disciplines to receive the Creative Capital Award. Held in three-year cycles, our process attracts a range of diverse artistic visions and practices and exceptional projects that challenge cultural and aesthetic conventions and push boundaries. We provide each awardee with up to $50,000 in direct funding allocated at key intervals in their project’s development, combined with deep mentorship and advisory services from a dynamic group of experts in a variety of fields. We work with our awardees on average for three to five years, building an entire system of support around them and their projects. Since 1999, we have committed $40 million in project funding and advisory support to 511 projects representing 642 artists. Workshops & Webinars Our workshops and webinars grew out of Creative Capital's work with our awardees. As part of our model of investing in the artists we support, we provide the tools and strategies they need to gain self-sufficiency as artists. We quickly found that not only were our awardees benefiting immensely from what they learned, they were sharing these lessons with their peers. This spirit of community building and resource sharing inspired us to create a full suite of workshops and webinars accessible to artists everywhere. Since 2003, we have worked with more than 15,000 artists who are enriching over 800 creative communities across the country. History In 1999, Creative Capital embarked on a mission to reinvent cultural philanthropy and to support innovative artists pursuing adventurous projects in all disciplines. The organization began as an experiment to see how artists could benefit from the kind of opportunities afforded to entrepreneurs in other sectors. Our pioneering system of supporting artists is inspired by the venture capital principles of building a long-term relationship with a project, providing funding at strategic moments, and surrounding the project with critical resources, counsel and advisory services. Over time, this has become known as venture philanthropy. In response to the National Endowment for the Arts' termination of the majority of its grant programs for individual artists, Creative Capital was founded with a fierce commitment to freedom of expression. We aim to support the latest thinking in the field and to provide early support for projects that initially have challenges receiving funding from other sources. We also strive to help all artists gain access to the tools and strategies needed for improved self-sufficiency. Creative Capital has since become the leader in supporting individual artists and the only national organization that has made a long-term commitment to artists’ career development. |
