Position Summary

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist (RCS) will support research compliance programs administered by the Office of Research Compliance and Training, with an approximate 60/40 split between export control and international research compliance/ conflict of interest and research misconduct. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist will report to the Associate Director for Research Compliance.

Responsibilities

Export Controls and International Research Compliance Programs

Working at the direction of the Director of Export Controls and International Engagements and the Associate Director for Research Compliance, the RCS will engage in the following activities:

Provide administrative support for export controls, sanctions, and research security compliance programs; monitor the Research Compliance inbox; respond to/direct incoming queries, as appropriate; draft and send follow up correspondence; maintain compliance documentation; track the status of compliance cases; assist with creation of compliance reports.
Analyze and resolve Restricted Party Screening alerts; create and distribute Visual Compliance usage reports; clear new user requests; distribute training materials.
Assist with export classifications, technology control plans and license applications.
Support the University’s International Research Committee (“IRC”); work with offices such as Sponsored Projects Administration and the Human Research Protection Program to ensure IRC review of appropriate projects; prepare IRC briefing materials; attend meetings and draft minutes; send follow-up correspondence and track status of IRC action items.
Provide support to relevant working groups, such as the Research Security Working Group; prepare working group materials; track the status of working group action items.
Conflict of Interest (COI) and other areas

Working at the direction of the Director for Research Compliance and Associate Director for Research Compliance, the RCS will engage in the following activities:

Coordinate administration of the program in institutional conflicts of interest and research.
Helping to ensure that all COI Committee requirements are implemented post-review. Responsibilities may include drafting relevant correspondence and documentation; tracking and coordinating COI Committee follow-up and conflict management plans; and helping to ensure that reporting and other deadlines are met.
In collaboration with other members of the COI team, the RCS also may analyze faculty conflict of interest disclosure forms; identify whether additional information is needed to identify and review potential conflicts of interest; and interact with faculty and staff to collect any needed additional data.
Assist in testing and planning for deployment of improved in-house electronic review systems.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of other research compliance and training programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
Exposure to an academic, scientific or regulatory environment also a plus.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.
Must be highly detail-oriented and organized with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Google Docs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality extremely important.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.
