The Coordinator for Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives is an integral member of the VALE (Valpo Advancing Latino Education) taskforce and serves as staff support/liaison to the HSI Leadership team.

The Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating activities and executing strategies that support Latino, Latina, and Latinx campus communities and overseeing project logistics in advancing the HSI Initiative. The Coordinator assists with identifying VALE meeting content, organizing events, performing administrative duties, managing website content, and establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships across campus and with community partners. This includes supporting Hispanic Heritage Month Planning with campus partners alongside ongoing other HSI initiatives

Major Responsibilities:

Work with the HSI Leadership team to update and maintain the website page - including identifying content that uplifts and celebrates the Latino community and the University’s Latinx students
Schedule logistics and secure resources for VALE-related events such as affinity meetings, town halls, and campus-community workshops and any events that contribute to the recruitment and retention of Latinx students and the enrichment of the institutional community
Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing departments to share potential communication and marketing opportunities
Serve as the lead on the VALE Outreach Committee and oversee VALE meeting logistics and support initiatives developed by the task force
Identify and communicate to the HSI Leadership team all potential opportunities and/or relationships that will increase the University’s ability to support HSI Initiatives. Identify challenges and recommend solutions to the AVP for HSI Initiatives
Assist with all administrative duties such as managing telephone lines and general email accounts, creating purchase orders, scheduling VALE meetings and HSI Leadership meetings, scheduling conference attendance, creating/managing project plans and timelines, and other duties as assigned
Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to disaggregate data and assist with the production of reports on the initiative

Required Knowledge and Skills:

2-5 years in education or related field, training, and/or work experience consistent with the duties of this position or in the areas of specialization inherent to the position
Preferred 2 years of work experience with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, specifically, but not limited to, Latinx populations as well as a strong commitment to supporting students of color and other minoritized student populations
Establish experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse audience of stakeholders
Proven experience in event planning or coordination
Experience working in a challenging and fast-paced atmosphere where prioritizing and multi-tasking are the norm
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suites

Other Qualifications:

Bilingual in (English and Spanish) both oral and written preferred
Demonstrated ability to communicate in both verbal and written formats to meet position responsibilities
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills
Strong critical thinking skills to solve problems and make decisions
Ability to set goals and manage multiple complicated tasks
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Ability to work on tight deadlines
Comfortable embracing new technologies and digital tools
Creative solution and problem-solving skills
Flexible in a fast-paced setting with competing and ever-changing tasks and able to remain calm under pressure
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
