Head Coach Swimming & Diving Title: Head Coach Swimming & Diving VP Area: Athletics Job Summary/Basic Function: Lake Superior State University is seeking a Head Coach of Swimming & Diving to manage all aspects of the NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving program, including recruiting, coaching, planning practices and competition, scheduling, managing program budgets, etc. Duties and Responsibilities: The Head Coach of Swimming & Diving will be responsible for the following: Organizing, conducting, and supervising all aspects of the intercollegiate men's and women's swimming and diving programs to include: Skill instruction, practices, student-athlete strength & conditioning, competition scheduling, competition preparation and competition day coaching, and participation within the GLIAC conference and NCAA meetings Implement a recruiting program that is consistent with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and recruit student-athletes who possess the academic and athletic skills needed to be successful at Lake Superior State University and to successfully compete in swimming and diving at Lake Superior State University. Responsible for insuring academic scheduling is done to meet the academic needs of the student –athletes and the student-athlete scheduling is done with the approval of the appropriate academic advisors. Providing appropriate leadership, direction, and supervision relevant to the academic progress of student-athletes within the men's and women's swimming & diving programs. Adhering to all university, conference, and NCAA rules and requirements relevant to the overall conduct of the intercollegiate men's and women's swimming & diving programs Preparing designated information relevant to budgets, equipment needs, travel advances/reconciliations, prospective student-athlete recruitment records, and other program areas. Working with development staff to establish relationships with alumni and other friends of the program and to identify potential donors to the program. Overseeing and assigning responsibilities to the Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach(es), supervising all aspects of their work performance and conducting performance evaluations; actively recruiting and supervising volunteer coaches to work with various events not assigned to other coaches. Representing the Department of Athletics, and the men's and women's swimming & diving programs at specified university, department, media, and community functions and events. Responsible for presenting a budget, and working within the framework of that budget as approved by the Director of Athletics. Major areas of budgetary control include equipment purchases, travel, recruiting, telephone, consultation, guarantees, team costs during vacation periods, and rentals. Other areas include, but are not limited to, postage, printing, awards, subscriptions, advertisements, and miscellaneous items. Must be able to drive LSSU vehicles to assure the team arrives safely to all scheduled activities. Responsible for recommending to the Director of Athletics the awarding of athletic grant-in-aid in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Physical Demands: Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; social intelligence; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks. Work Hours: Varies. The work hours for this position include nights and weekends, as required by practice. Travel is required. | |
