The Assistant Volleyball Coach assists the Head Volleyball Coach with all aspects of athletic team operation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to Head Volleyball Coach of athletic team.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Assistant Volleyball Coach will be responsible for graduate assistants and may supervise student employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Volleyball Coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services to the athletic program under the direction and supervision of the Head Volleyball Coach at Heidelberg University.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

– Recruiting quality student-athletes capable of competing at the NCAA level

– Recruiting student-athletes capable of achieving academic success at a competitive academic institution

– Achieving competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence

– Providing leadership in the personal development of student-athletes by projecting a positive and professional image

– Helping to design a competitive schedule that maximizes student-athlete development and performance

– Demonstrating excellent writing, speaking, and listening skills

– Developing and sustaining positive relationships with alumni and friends of the program

– Aiding in the planning and implementation of practice and competition schedules

– Participating and assisting in fund-raising activities

– Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Ohio Athletics Conference, University, and Athletics Department standards

– Administration of home events

– Aiding and planning of team travel and recruit visits

– Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Volleyball Coach

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Professional Experience:

(A) Bachelor’s Degree

(B) 2-4 years coaching/athletic experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

(A) Proven ability to recruit high level student-athletes

(B) Successful background in collegiate coaching and / or personal experience at the collegiate level

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must demonstrate analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

Ability to relate to diverse cross-sections of individuals.

Ability to work independently and with a team.

Ability to travel as needed or required, work evenings and / or weekends as needed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, integrated database software, fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers. Experience with or ability to learn recruiting software and databases. Employee in this position must have a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting. The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear. The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office setting, and educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor. The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.

SELECTION GUIDELINES: The Assistant Coach will be selected after a formal application procedure, education and experience rating, oral interview, and reference check. All offers of employment are contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background screen, motor vehicle record search, drug and alcohol screen, and/or physical examination at the University’s discretion.
