Job Title Human Resources Generalist Division Finance & Administration Department Human Resources Work Status Full Time Position Category Staff FLSA Exempt Pay Range N/A Minimum Commensurate with experience Maximum Fund Source State Support Job Duties Duties & Responsibilities: The HR Generalist is the first point of contact for answering questions and counseling faculty, staff, supervisors and administration on interpretation of MSU OHR policies and procedures related to Leave Administration, Workers’ Compensation, Timekeeping and Tuition Waivers. They are responsible for completing data analysis, compiling reports, auditing and maintaining dashboards. This position establishes OHR practices to guarantee compliance with MSU policy, as well as, state and federal guidelines. The HR Generalist will be responsible for coordinating initial efforts related to faculty and staff that require Family Medical Leave (FMLA), Maryland Sick & Safe Leave (MDSSL), Leave of Absences, Medical Leave, Work Feasibility and Maryland Leave Bank. Will closely work with administration, supervisors, and OHR representatives on submission of paperwork related to these areas. Administratively coordinating the processes for onboarding, offboarding and probationary periods. Ensures that human resources activities and services are consistent and support the established university-wide vision, mission, and core values. Additionally, the HR Generalist may assist assigned departments to be the OHR internal liaison for human resources processes such as learning and development (identification of professional development opportunities), employee and labor relations (including grievance resolution, coaching, disciplinary action), recruitment and retention strategies, and compensation analysis. Serve on various committees and task forces. Recommends new policies and best practices. Other duties as assigned. This position reports to the HR Manager. Requested Minimum Qualifications Education: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience: At least one year of experience in a professional human resources capacity or higher education administration is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to prioritize own work as needed. Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines. Very strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of University employees. Other Preferences for Consideration Familiarity with principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, compensation, learning & development, performance management, leave administration and personnel information systems. Knowledge of human resource laws, employment law, business and management principles involved in strategic planning, people and resource allocation.
