Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Housing for Business Service Operations, the Associate Director for Human Resources and Payroll Operations manages or oversees all aspects of University Housing’s human resources functions, including employee relations, payroll, recruitment, as well as training, and staff development. University Housing is comprised of 75 Officers of Administration, 350 classified staff, 1,000 student staff as well as a couple hundred seasonal temporary staff.

This position is responsible for the Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high-performance, inclusive, multicultural environment that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

The Associate Director for Human Resources and Payroll Operations is responsible for the development of processes that support the department, divisional, and University goals. This position serves as a resource to departmental leadership, managers, and campus colleagues on human resources issues and best practices.

The Associate Director manages a team of four professional staff and two student/temporary staff. The team is responsible for payroll processing for university housing to include all pay action items. The team oversees all recruitment efforts for the department and serves as a liaison between unit directors and our campus Human Resource and Payroll partners.

Minimum Requirements
• Five years of full-time experience managing complex human resources functions that included managing employee/labor relations issues, and providing professional-level guidance to leadership, managers, and staff.
• Two years of experience supervising professional staff.
• Experience managing HR functions in a unionized workforce and applying collective bargaining agreements to recruitment and employee/labor relations issues.

• Strong written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofreading materials.
• Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Current PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in higher education.
• Experience in payroll operations.
