Department Summary The Division of Global Engagement (DGE) works to make the University of Oregon a more global university. In 21st-century higher education, international engagement is not an optional extra: as noted in UO’s Academic Plan, it is a core mission, essential to a thriving, socially salient, intellectually robust, academic community. It is part of the normal functioning of every school, college, department, and center. DGE works to support and integrate a wide range of international engagements, global-scale projects, and transnational partnerships launched and maintained in our many academic units. Units within DGE consist of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Education Oregon (GEO), and Global Studies Institute (GSI).
The Global Studies Institute (GSI) supports internationally-oriented research centers, programs, and initiatives to enhance faculty research, enrich the student experience, and promote the University of Oregon’s academic excellence at home and with partners worldwide. Centers and programs within GSI include the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS), Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS), Gabon-Oregon Center, Oregon Statewide Area Studies Consortia, UNESCO Crossings Institute, UO Global Justice Program, APRU Sustainable Cities and Landscapes Hub, the Center for Global Health, Translation Studies Center, Islamic Studies Initiative, and several on-campus affiliates.
Position Summary GSI is a unit within the Division of Global Engagement (DGE), which makes the University of Oregon a more global university. Units within DGE consist of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Education Oregon (GEO), and Global Studies Institute (GSI).
The GSI Director manages a team to undertake all day-to-day operations of GSI. This position is responsible for 1) initiating, developing, and implementing new projects with revenue potential; 2) operations of programs, centers, initiatives, events, and projects; 3) oversight of all grants, gifts, contracts, and other funding streams; 4) supervision of all staff. The Director reports directly to the Dean and Vice Provost for the Division of Global Engagement.
Minimum Requirements • Master's degree or equivalent experience • Five years of increasing experience and responsibility in leadership, staff supervision, financial planning, and program development and implementation. • Three years experience working with private and federal grant proposals, contracts, or philanthropic gifts associated with higher education recipients, including development, submission, and management stages.

Preferred Qualifications • Administrative experience within an institution of higher education. • International experience through study, employment, travel, or residence abroad. • Office management experience. • Human resources experience. • Budget creation and management experience. • Substantial event and/or program planning experience.
