Description

Hofstra University's Department of Physician Assistant Studies is pleased to invite applications for a Clinical Coordinator who will serve as an 18 credit full-time faculty member, reports directly to Program Director and is responsible to the Dean of the School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Provides dual-degree, didactic year, and/or research semester instruction.
  • Instructs and assesses students in courses such as physical examination and diagnostic modalities courses, correlative medicine, structure lab, simulation activities, and summative exams.
  • Proctors examinations.
  • Provides clinical instruction, monitors, and coordinates the following clinical clerkship courses: Family medicine, Ob/Gyn, and Elective
  • Review and revises syllabi for assigned clerkships.
  • Obtain clinical sites consistent with the program objectives.
  • Formulation and maintenance of affiliation agreements.
  • Instructs, develops, distributes, monitors, and grades student assignments and assessments such as: clinical presentations, site visits, clinical notes, clerkship specific assignments, simulation cases, patient logging, and review of call back day packets.
  • Updates clinical year software systems such as Exxat.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor student evaluation instruments consistent with the goals of each clinical rotation.
  • Monitor the receipt of all components and assessment instruments during the clinical year.
  • Monitors sites and maintains on-going site evaluation process to ensure quality of preceptors and teaching at each clinical site. Including monitoring mid and end of clerkship evaluations and completing necessary clinical site evaluation forms.
  • Act as a liaison between the program and the preceptors of established clinical sites. Communicates often with preceptors and other key individuals at clinical sites.
  • Addressing student, preceptor, clinical site concerns, issues, blood borne pathogen exposures, deficiencies in appropriate site specific documentation etc.
  • Ensure that each student has all appropriate certifications, immunizations and any other requirements necessary for clinical clerkships.
  • Managing changes or reassignment of clerkships.
  • Identification of students with performance deficiencies and development of strategies to address deficiencies including remediation exercises.
  • Attends and participates in all call back days.
  • Monitors registration of students for assigned clerkships.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the program director.

Faculty Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Co-coordinates and conducts yearly "clinical year orientation"
  • Co-coordinates, develops, and monitors all aspects transition from the didactic to the clinical year.
  • Co-coordinates monthly "call back" sessions during the clinical year.
  • Review and update clinical and preceptor handbooks annually.
  • Creates, revises, and monitors blood borne pathogen policy and procedure.
  • Identifies, organizes, and oversees topics related to preceptor incentives such as appointment, re-appointment, CME etc.
  • Coordinates student accommodation as delineated by Student Access Services.
  • Implement and coordinate additional student support services, including the coordination of all remediation assignments including tutoring.
  • Coordinates all iLearn modules.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the program director.

Faculty Program Responsibilities:

  • Participate in program committees.
  • Participate in School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies governance.
  • Develop scholarly projects.
  • Participate in faculty development and in PAEA.
  • Participate in University-wide and community admissions events and other activities as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of applicants as a member of the program's Admission Committee.
  • Provide academic counseling to students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the program.
  • Assure availability of remediation.
  • Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of the program mission.
  • Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of program goals and competencies.
  • Actively participate in student performance.
  • Actively participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.
  • Attends, participates in, and prepares for all student orientation sessions.
  • Attends, prepares for, and participates in all faculty, end of semester, student-faculty, retreat, and all other departmental meetings.
  • Follows all procedures and policies of Hofstra University. Must have a willingness to participate in a collective faculty process.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required. Must hold a terminal degree in their field.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment.
  • If a physician assistant, must hold a current license in New York State, is certified, and has a minimum of a master's degree. Has knowledge of and commitment to the physician assistant profession.

Salary/Salary Range

$95,000 - $110,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
