The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Geosciences welcomes applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Geology with an emphasis in Structural Geology and/or Geophysics. The Department of Geosciences offers the following degrees: BS Geology with optional concentrations in Petroleum or Environmental Geology, MS Geology Thesis Option, and MS Geology, Professional (non-thesis) option.

The ideal candidate would hold a PhD in Geology and/or Geophysics and support our teaching and research efforts in subsurface characterization for oil and gas exploration, carbon dioxide storage, and seismicity in the Permian Basin and beyond. Postdoctoral research experience or industry experience would be an added benefit. The start date is August 2024. Salary Range

$70,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses to support departmental instructional needs in Structural Geology, Tectonics, and Geophysics as well as offer elective and graduate courses in their area of specialty. Tenure track faculty at UTPB teach a 3-3 course load (60%), with expectations for research (30%) and service (10%) to the department, university, and discipline.

Position duties include:

• Teach courses based on departmental needs and expertise
• Develop and pursue an extramurally funded research program based on one's expertise
• Engage BS and MS students in research
• Provide academic advising to students at the BS and MS level
• Provide support to students in need of academic improvement, department, and discipline
• Actively participate in the department’s recruiting and expansion

Required Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Structural Geology, Tectonics, or Geophysics is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Commitment to working with diverse student population
2. Interdisciplinary research into structural geology, tectonics, basin analysis, or geophysics
3. Experience with, or capability to, seek funding for research
4. Past teaching experience as faculty or graduate teaching assistant
