Position Description:
The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Economics seeks applicants for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Economics, starting in August 2024. This successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in microeconomics on a regular basis. Additional teaching responsibilities, depending on expertise, may include statistics, principles of macroeconomics, and quantitative courses that contribute to the business analytics curricula. The department is open to candidates with a variety of micro-focused research agendas, areas of specialization, and methodological approaches. Especially welcome are candidates who can bridge the gap between theory and practice, bring global perspectives to their teaching and research, and convey the importance of economics in a business environment. Applicants seeking a balance in teaching and research responsibilities will find a collegial work environment. In-person, on-campus teaching and regular office hours are required. Depending on demand and expertise, teaching responsibilities may also include a limited number of online courses.

The Wilson College of Business (business.uni.edu) is AACSB-accredited and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing & Entrepreneurship) along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The Wilson College has 50 full-time faculty and 53 staff and enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The Wilson College is recognized as a "Best Business School" by The Princeton Review, listed among U.S. News & World Report's top part-time MBA programs, and as a Military Times Best for Vets: Business Schools. The Wilson College has a strong international presence, developing strategic alliances with several international business schools. The Department of Economics consists of 7 faculty members and around 60 undergraduate students majoring in the department. The department has a history of teaching excellence evidenced by the active engagement of our students. The department is known for its collegial and supportive environment in both scholarship and teaching, with opportunities for department seminars and collaboration. Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Economics from an AACSB-accredited doctoral program required. Economics ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2024.

Required Qualifications:
Proven record of excellence in teaching; background in applied microeconomics; demonstrated ability to produce publishable research in economics journals; and demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.

Desirable Qualifications:
Previous stand-alone teaching experience; a demonstrated ability to contribute to the business analytics curriculum; proficiency in analytics software such as R, SAS, Tableau, and/or Python; evidence of ability to create an engaged and applied classroom environment; and evidence of ability to advance the academic, professional, and personal success of students preferred.
